Bully Prevention Programming

Bully Prevention Programming

New for 2016-2017!

West Allegheny will be adding Rachel's Challenge, a character education curriculum, into our Character Education and Bully Prevention Programs!

Rachel's Challenge

Rachel's Challenge is a program encouraging students, staff and the whole community to start a "chain reaction" of kindness toward each other by focusing on the following key components: Kindness, Acceptance, Influence and Goal-Setting. West Allegheny Elementary Schools and Middle School will be threading this program into our already existing Olweus program to create the most powerful, supportive program possible for our students. Students and staff will participate in classroom meetings and fun activities focusing on these important key components following a meaningful kickoff assembly on October 17th.

Olweus Anti-Bullying Program

We at Donaldson Elementary feel that bullying in schools is a serious problem that is most effectively addressed at the systemic level. Therefore, we, along with McKee, Wilson and the Middle School, are proud to implement the research-based Olweus Anti-Bullying Program.

This program emphasizes vested partnerships between the students, parents, school staff, and community to create the safest environment possible for kids. As opposed to a curriculum that is merely taught to students, the program involves educating ALL staff to intervene in bullying situations on-the-spot and ALL students to realize what constitutes bullying, what roles are involved, and what they can do to help.

This is accomplished through weekly classroom meetings, yearly rigorous trainings for new staff, and communication through a core committee to staff, students, parents and the community.

Together we can create the safest environment for our kids, where we teach them to become the most successful members of this community of which we are so proud to be part! Please contact Mrs. Tracy or Mrs. Nolan with any questions about the program, or to learn how you can become more involved.
