Kids of Steel

Kids of Steel

Kids of STEEL is an exercise and nutrition program designed to motivate children to pursue quality nutrition and an active lifestyle by incorporating exercise and healthy eating habits into their daily routine. Participants choose one of three training plans (preschool, Kids Marathon or 5K) and works on the appropriate exercise and nutrition goals. 

During the training period children will:

  • Complete physical activity goals based on the training plan appropriate for your child’s ability.
  • Try new foods by working on nutrition goals appropriate for your child’s age.
  • Learn the benefits of setting a goal, training and achieving that goal.
  • Track activity and nutrition goals on a training log and turn it in for a finisher prize.

Kids of STEEL participants can complete their program in one of three optional runs (both held the Saturday of marathon weekend):

The Toddler Trot is a 100 meter run recommended for ages 2-5.

The Toyota of Pittsburgh Kids Marathon is a one mile fun run (not timed) for children to run with family and friends (Please check out Link #1 for registration).

The UPMC Health Plan/UMPC Sports Medicine Pittsburgh 5K Run, for more advanced runners (Please check out Link #2 for registration). 

All children who turn in their completed the Kids of STEEL training log will receive a finisher prize. 

Children who register for the Toddler Trot will receive a finisher medal and shirt. Children who register for the Kids Marathon or 5K will receive a finisher medal, shirt and goody bag.


**Weekly optional practices will be held at Donaldson for students to accumulate miles starting in January.
