Helping Hands

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is a program for students who are entering the 4th grade. Students are recommended by their teachers, guidance counselor, and principal. These students must commit to participate in a summer training program at the end of third grade which focuses on leadership, communication, and working with/ helping others. Following the training, students utilize their skills volunteering with students involved in the Extended School Year program sponsored by theWest Allegheny School District. In the fall of their 4th grade year, the Helping Hands students begin volunteering. skills  Once a week the students participate in a social skills activity with the students. Also, if the schedule permits, Helping Hands will participate in phys. ed. and swimming with the life skills students.
