Principal - Dr. Cheryl McHone

Cheryl McHone

As principal, Dr. Cheryl McHone draws on her extensive experience to foster positive school culture and student affairs, implement intervention efforts related to student behavior and attendance, and enhance academic instruction through classroom observations and development of professional learning opportunities for teachers.  

Dr. McHone recently earned her doctorate in educational leadership and holds a master’s in special education and a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies all from East Tennessee State University as well as an educational specialist degree in curriculum and instruction from Lincoln Memorial University.

Academic Principal - Dr. Katharine Roche

McClelland

As high school academic principal, Dr. Roche draws on her expertise in technology and STEM to enhance student access and enrichment.  In this role, Dr. Roche continues to expand her responsibilities from assistant principal to include working with teachers on professional learning opportunities, curriculum and instruction. She also has a strong focus on building school culture through implementation of pep rallies and the annual Senior Celebration and Declaration Day.  Dr. Roche has been with the District since 2014 when she was hired as high school assistant principal.  



Assistant Principal - Mr. Gary Hutsler

As assistant principal, Mr. Gary Hutsler focuses on fostering positive relationships with students through an individualized lens that promotes school connections and leads to career and college readiness. He remains committed to growing positive school culture and developing well-rounded individuals by focusing on the academic, art, and athletic engagement of all students. 



Director of Athletics - Mr. David McBain

McBain
Mr. McBain serves as an Director of Athletics.  The West Allegheny Athletic Department is under the direction of Mr. David McBain, who began his tenure with the Indians in the fall of 2000. During his term, the athletic teams have flourished and added programs and services to better meet the needs of our student-athletes. The success of the teams has been a constant source of pride that he shares with the staff and community as a whole. Winners of multiple section, WPIAL and PIAA titles has been the hallmark of the department’s success.
