Title I Reading   Grades 6 – 8

The Title I Reading Program provides service to students at West Allegheny Middle School.  It is a federally funded program that provides support in the area of reading.  Different models of instruction are used in the program.  The teacher may work alongside the classroom teacher in the same room or pull students for small group instruction in the reading lab.  The emphasis of the Title I Program at the middle school moves from learning to read to reading to learn.  Study skills are emphasized along with strategies to help the students monitor their own reading and take corrective action when necessary.

Criteria for entrance in the program:  teacher recommendation, fluency score below grade level, Scantron reading scores below grade level, PSSA reading scores Basic or Below Basic, San Diego Graded Word List from Ekwall , student is not in the learning support program
