Ms. Frizzle's class is going to study earth science. She gives them a homework assignment: "Bring in rocks." When they bring in everything but rocks, Ms. Frizzle decides it is time for a field trip. Ms. Frizzle takes the class on a field trip inside the earth.

On a sheet of paper, write a brief explanation of how sedimentary rock is formed.




Fossils are the remains of animals and plants, or the record of their presence, preserved in the rocks of the Earth. 
Fossilization is the process that turns a once living thing into a fossil. There are lots of fossils to be found, but only a tiny number of all the animals and plants that ever lived have been fossilized.
